Greenfield EPCM project in Austria
Problem definition
The challenge was to expand an existing production line for cell cultures in order to increase the capacity for the upstream process (USP). This involved integrating five additional main fermenters and two seed trains including n-1 perfusion, as well as retrofitting an n-1 perfusion in the existing USP. In addition, the media hold capacities and buffer hold capacities in the downstream process (DSP) as well as the utilities of the building had to be expanded.
Our solution
SPIEGLTEC planned and implemented the expansion of the production line, which led to a significant increase in production capacity. The commissioning of this production line will take place at the end of 2024, which will be the largest cell culture production line in the customer’s entire network.
Through careful planning, an experienced project team and the reduction of subcontracting, the project was completed on time and within budget, resulting in a high level of customer satisfaction.
Challenges such as material procurement and water ingress during the construction phase were successfully overcome thanks to early planning and close cooperation with the customer. The installation work went smoothly and the planned 12-week shutdown was completed on schedule.
